Basic overview of of special education law including such topics as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Individualized Education Programs (IEP), eligibility, continuum of placement options, related services (including mental health), least restrictive environment, behavior intervention, discipline & reimbursement cases. COVID-19 Considerations for Special Education
Review of how COVID-19 and school closures affect special education rights for students already in special education and students who need to be assessed for special education. New laws enacted in response to the Pandemic and education will be discussed. (In English)

School District Panel: COVID-19 Update
Attorneys representing school districts will provide information on the State of California’s response to COVID-19 school closures and distance learning plans, as well as the challenges and proposed solutions for how school districts are handling balancing the safety of students and staff and plans for re-opening campuses.
Stay Put: When Parents and Schools Disagree
The rights of students to continue their education while contesting their services as well as school efforts to limit Stay Puts applicability.
Special Education Dispute Resolution Options
Explains the different options available to students and parents when there is a disagreement over the student’s special education program and rights, as well as a discussion of the pro’s and con’s of each.
Title IX: New Rules
Addresses Title IX protections and procedures, how it affects students’ rights in an educational institution, and review the new rules effective in August 2020.
